To help reduce registrant confusion we have launched a service for registrars who have a reseller channel that will allow information about domain name resellers to be included in the WHOIS and in our communication with registrants.

What the reseller data service does

This new service will give registrars the option to provide us with information about their resellers and then link domain names to those resellers. This will allow all of our registrant communications and lookup services to reference the reseller. As a result the information that we publish about who hosts a domain name will be clearer and allow the customer, reseller, registrar and Nominet to deal more effectively with any queries relating to the domain name registration.

How the reseller data service works

If you are a registrar that provides a reseller programme, this new service will allow your resellers to have their details included in the registration records for a domain name. This means that you can offer your resellers a comprehensive domain name registration service for .uk names. Your resellers can then, in turn, offer their customers a full service. If a registrant receives an email from us, or looks up their domain name on WHOIS, then they will be more confident when they see the reseller’s information listed as their domain name provider.

Reseller information will be shown, listed as domain name provider in the following emails and services:

• The welcome email that we send to new .uk registrants
• Renewal emails that we send to registrants if the domain name is not renewed by its renewal date
• The WHOIS lookup service
• The lookup service on www.keepyour.co.uk
• Any other emails that previously referenced the registrar

How to use the reseller data service

To use the reseller service you need to do three things:

• Tell us about your resellers: Simply log into your registrar online service account and upload data about your resellers. We need a unique reseller reference, their trading name and some basic public contact information.
• Link domain names to resellers: You can use our registration tools to modify the details of existing domain names to link them to your resellers.
• Link new registrations to resellers: You need to ensure that ongoing new registrations are linked to the appropriate reseller by making some changes to your registration process to include the reseller reference.
