Anna Carboni took a degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge in 1984 before transferring to law. She qualified as a solicitor into the Intellectual Property and Technology department of a ‘magic circle’ law firm in London in 1988, became a partner in 1996, and a solicitor-advocate in 2000. Keen to spend more time in Court and less time in management, she was called to the Bar and joined Wilberforce Chambers in 2003.
Anna’s practice spans the full range of intellectual property and information technology law. She litigates disputes and advises on issues concerning trade marks, copyright, designs, patents, database rights, domain names, computer contracts, comparative advertising, confidential information, data protection and privacy law. Anna represents clients in commercial disputes involving the licensing and management of intellectual property rights, as well as in infringement and validity cases. Appearing regularly in the Courts, Anna has particular experience of urgent interim applications. She also represents clients before the UK and European Community Intellectual Property Offices.
Alongside her client work, Anna sits as an Appointed Person, hearing appeals from the UK Trade Marks Registry. She is also a member of the Panel of Experts for Nominet’s domain name Dispute Resolution Service. And she is increasingly being asked to assist in disputes as a Mediator, having been accredited by CEDR in 2004.
Anna is a regular conference speaker. She has written numerous articles and book chapters on IP topics, and is on the editorial boards of the European Trade Mark Reports and the Journal of IP Law and Practice. She chairs the Parallel Imports Committee of the International Trademarks Association and is an active member of several other professional organisations in the world of IP.
Chambers 2009 describes Anna as being "great at seeing the commercial angle" and "highly user-friendly".
